After the long and hard bank holiday weekend the Head coaches within Team GB have selected there team and these have been finalized and published.

Paddlers headed for London not for the royal Wedding but to get on the water at the brand new Lee Valley White Water Centre based in Waltham cross - Broxbourne.

The event was a great sucess with 5,000 members of the general public turing up to watch these athletics fight it out for a place on the team.

Local club HYMCOPS was asked to come alone and run a go paddling season on the lake which was intended to get the public interested in the sport and they had a very busy time catering for all ages even as young as four.

However the club was then asked if they could provide the water safety team. The Slalom course safety team had a mainly quiet weekend apart from Sunday when the strong wind conditions and a demanding course, and some careless gate judges provided them some activity.

The Club also got to try out the brand new Team GB C1 and C2 boats which makes a chance to the ones they are currently paddling. Members of the public were impressed with the New Lee Valley venue and it has been decided that test events should be open to the public rather than behind closed doors, so keep your eyes open for more information over the coming months.

There is a Div 3 / 4 Slalom event on the River Loddon at Readng on the 2nd / 3rd May 2010, we will not be attending this event as a club but you may borrow equipment and go to this event.

Tuesday evening is the 2nd round of the Harefield Summer Series of Marathon style races which HYM COPS are currently leading (info attached).

you need to be over the age of 9 and if your under 18 you must have a parent permission slip field in which can be done on the day

the day start at 10 and there is no limit to the amount of activities you can do

Yesterday I took part in some wild water training at Cardington, We had national team coach’s down to supports us with what we was doing and to give us some tips on what we could do to improve are stork, and times. we managed to get the white water course for a few hours and this helped us improve even further.

The day was a great event and had three different workshops. these were forward paddling technique, Turing on moving water and down water paddling.

Each of these workshops really helped my paddling as it made me think about what I was doing more.

At the end of the day the national team coach’s organized a race. The race was navigation down the white water course in the quickest time. I came first in the race with a time of 55 seconds and 2nd place came in with 59.

It has been a year that you have been viewing Broxbourne White Water Canoe Centre.

The past year the site has progressed and with big important events happening you found out about them through the blog. It has been a wonderful year for my blog website, I took on the challenge and have found it full of fun writing posts and telling viewers what is going on, I hope to keep having great success with the website for many years to come.”

Today I tested out the K1 Extend light in a competition event at Harefield.

I found this cagdeck amazing it fitted to my skin so nice that it could of easily been used as a race vest. The cag is semi dry which is excellent in a competition as you want as little water in the boat as possible. The spraydeck is also very good. On first impressions we thought the marterial used was strange however when i got on the water my fellow paddlers all found that they got out wet,  when I got out I was bone dry.

i highly recommend that you buy this cagdeck from Hiko because it really is worth the money.  In my last review I said that spraydecks weren’t meant to keep you dry, just stop too much water getting into the boat, however this cagdeck made me think that yes they are and they can. Hiko really have made a breakthrough in there cagdecks.

I rate this product  a massive 10/10

News – Canoeist at Herts Young Mariners’ BaseSpokesman Gary Archer said the event, which was sponsored by Canoe 2012, was staged so that young people and adults could go along to the Windmill Lane venue to see what the sport is all about.

Well it has been a while seance anything major has happened but on the weekend of Saturday the 23rd of may and Sunday the 24th may. HYMB hosted our own paddle fest event. we Had many different activities ranging from racing and freestyle on Saturday to flat water slalom and bell boating on Sunday. The event was a great success with about 60 participants wanting to try new kayaking disciplines.

We also had lots of new paddles that never realised that these great facilities were on the doorsteps.  Event like these dont go on without major planning and sometimes problems do arise however HYMB staff and volunteers solved these problems to make the event sucessful.

On sunday we had someone from the cheshunt mercury paper wanting to take pictures and film of young people having fun with watersports and when that articles is on there website i will be linking to it.

I am also awaiting on some pictures that were taken of the event they are to follow

I know it has been some time since I last posted but things have been very quite.

On Saturday morning 13 kayaks departed hymb for a trip on the Seven and Tene. The trip consisted of a 3 and a half hour drive up to the river then a trip down the river. We then staid at a youth hostile.

The trip was great fun and a great trip for those people that just wanted to recap on some of the skills that we may of forgotten in the rest season. there was three paddlers on the trip me included that are slalom paddles. We found the trip great. the trip was also a amassing trip for some of the people that have never paddled white water.

On Saturday we left the base at 08:35 and made good time to are first stop that took about 2 hours. we then had a another 1 hour and a half drive to the place we was going to get on the river. we did a quick warm up and had some lunch and at about 12:00 we got onto the river to start are jouncy down the river. we was split up into small group so we could get the most out of the river. when we arrived at are get off point we got changed in the car park while the staff went and got the minibus that was where we started. then we had a hour drive to the place where we was going to stay the night.

The next day we got up at 07:45 and got ready for breakfast at 08:00 and by 09:00 we had left the hostile. We started the paddle on the second river which was going to take us about 4 to 5 hours to complete. This consisted of paddling 4 wiers and several rapid sections.

We arrived back at the base at half six in the evening and unloaded all the boats and washed them down.

The trip was a great sucess for all the paddles and everyone had great fun and learned many new skills.
