Update on Lee Valley White Water Centre being open to the public

hey all just to let you all know Lee Valley White water centre staff have just posted on Facebook that the centre is going to be closed from this Friday and will not reopen again until Saturday the 6th of August, This is due to a Olympic event and presentations that will be going on to get things sorted for the London Olympics next year.

White Water Slalom canoeists in trouble

A group of 6 white water slalom canoeists had to be rescued from the swollen River Tees on Saturday.

The article claims the 6 slalom canoeists are amongst the top 20 in the country

Russ Smith, a former British and World canoe slalom champion and manager of Teesside White Water Course, said: “Judging by the great volume of water that is around the country at the moment, my advice would be for any paddlers to be very, very careful on the rivers and try to seek local, expert advice if you are unsure.”

Lewis Gordon Pugh attempts to Kayak to the North Pole

The BBC website has a video about Lewis Gordon Pughs plans to kayak from Norway to the North Pole. He believes that the Polar Ice cap has melted to such an extent that this trip will now be possible.

The environmental activist more usually associated with marathon swimming challenges has now turned to Kayaking to highlight the melting ice in the Arctic.

Day trip to Portsmouth – HMS Victory

Well my busy life is still well busy!

I’ve had a rest form the kayaking for a couple of days as I have got a big competition next week on some big white water course on the Nene (at the Nene White Water Canoe and Kayaking Centre), so its probably a good idea to have some rest.

Well the last couple of days, since coming back from my Sea Kayak trip, I’ve been staying at my nans. A great place to be as I’m not rudely awoken in the morning to do my paper round!

Well anyway yesterday I wanted to go down to Portsmouth to go in the the navy docks to have a look round, me being a navy cadet (sea cadet), and there is one thing every cadet has to see and that’s HMS Victory Lord Nelsons flagship. Going round the ship was great fun.

But it was not only HMS Victory I went there to see, no, I also got to see the Mary Rose that sank but was recovered, hundreds of years later, and is now undergoing steps to preserve it. I also saw HMS Warrier.

While we were there we also got onto a harbour tour that went round the whole of Portsmouth Harbour and told us all about it this was also great fun as I got to see all the ships and HMS Bristol the ship the sea Cadets stay on that is birthed on whale island also know as HMS Excellence.
