Well we had to be at the Nene White Water Canoe Slalom Centre early so we all needed to be at HYMB by 8 o’clock to leave at 8:30.  For once we managed to do this but as usual we didnt keep it up and had to go and stop for petrol.

We arrived at the Nene White Water Canoe Slalom Centre at 9:50 which was not ideal as the official runs started for my division at 10 o’clock so it was a rush to get on the water, but we managed it just in time before the next division slot at 10:30, leaving me just a short practice.
After I had my official practice I could only walk around the course, which I did, several times (about 6 to be precise) so I knew the course pretty well I would say. My run was not until 1:30 so I had some time to burn so what else is there to do when its sunny but top up your tan.
At about 1:10 I got on the water to warm up. My run was late but I did it in 1:54 with a single two second penalty for a touched gate. So it wasn’t a bad run but could have been better.  My next run was at 5:00 so I had a long time rest (and sun bathing).
When my next run came it was much better, a clean run… apart from I caught the competitor in front at the last gates.  They were waved to the side to let me through but it meant that the angle that I attacked the gate at was not ideal and I lost some time, but still finished in 1:51.
My coach Martin managed to get me a re-run and as I had been delayed.  The re-run was almost straight after the previous run so I was pretty tired still at the time but it was fun. Even so the re-run was a good one, knocking 7 seconds off my time and got  a 1:44, but with a 2 second penalty for a touched gate. The time was good enough to finish 6th in the league (division 3), in all age groups.
However I was the fastest under 16 year old so I won a gold medal as well. We left the Nene White Water Canoe Slalom Centre at 6:07 and arrived back at HYMB at just gone 8:00 so it wasn’t a bad trip, most of us got good results and medals too.
I had another slalom competition at Cardington on Saturday 6th September so I will blog on that and keep you up to date with what I am doing.

Had a quite time since my last post about the Team GB Olympic flag raising and I am going back in time in this post!

While I was away in the Alps training I told you all that I had taken my 3 star white water BCU award, well until today I had no idea if I had passed it as we were not told at the time whether we we had or had not, so it was worrying to wait and see.

Well to my surprise today I received a certificate saying I had successfully passed the BCU 3 star white water kayak award so the wait and worry was over.

Getting my 3 star white water kayak award means that I can get some extra points at Navy Cadets (Sea Cadets) that I will need to get ranked up to the next rank. So getting the five points (that’s what its worth at Sea Cadets) is a big help.

This weekend I will be attending a white water slalom competition at the Nene white water canoe centre. This is my first season in white water kayak slalom and you start in division 4 and have to work your way up.  My aim is to get into division 2 by the end of the season. My aim for this event is to try and get a minimom of 600 points so that I stand a very good chance of getting into division 2 by next season. This will need lots of hard work but it should be worth it to get into the next dIvision up.
